Day 291

One of my favorite things to do is sneak into the nursery and read books from baby boy's bookshelf. I rock...and read...and pray. I decided to start recording my secret moments in the nursery so that our sweet baby can learn my voice and Rebekah can hear my heart. This week, Rebekah invited me to view videos she has posted on youtube. She had a video posted with her youngest son (he's three) and it melted my heart to hear her voice for the first time. I could see and feel the love between them and hope that hearing my voice for the first time will bring her comfort, too.

The first of many story times to come....

[And completely disregard my appearance I had the flu, this weekend and haven't gotten out of my sweats!]

Guess How Much I Love You, by Sam McBratney

"I love you right up to the moon and back."

  2. Loved this, Rebekah!! I read this story to my son recently. Along with another children's book called "Blessing From Above". It's a Golden Book by Patti Henderson and it is a perfect story of our particular adoption story. I highly recommend it! I read it to Isaiah recently and I cried through the whole thing, and he just stared at me instead of the book. You have a lifetime of incredible moments ahead of you! I'm very excited for you.

p.s. This southern girl isn't used to your accent! ;)

  3. How sweet! I remember sitting in what would be our daughter's room the night before we met her birth parents and just covering her in prayer. It was such a moving experience and one I can't wait to share with her one day. If only we'd been smart enough to get the camera out! You're one clever girl!

Hugs to you...I can't wait to see the first video of you holding that little man and reading him a bedtime story.

  9. Wow! What a great idea!! I had several favorite parts but the big winner is "well, some kids DO have 2 mommies but we'll talk about that when you're a little older." Ha! Love it. You're going to be a rockin' mommy. ;)

  15. You are going to make such a great mommy!!! How wonderful it is for you to find a woman like Rebekah who knows in her heart that she is giving this baby the best chance at a wonderful life. If only more people in this country could look at adoption in such a way! This baby will feel truly loved and blessed to be able to look back as an adult and see how much his two mothers loved him!!

  20. Rebekah, that is such an awesome idea! And how great that Rebekah is willing to share your voice with the baby...I'm in awe over how perfect this match seems.

I don't think I mentioned this before, but my sister adopted my nephew Gavin from Russia in 2005. Yesterday was Gavin (and coincidentally, my sister's) birthday. He is 5 now, but my sister used to read him this book and he loved it. He loved it so much that his grandma had a wooden sign customized that hangs in his room that says, "I love you to the moon and back". My sister also got a tattoo on her foot with Gavin's name and a moon and stars next to it to symbolize the book. Pretty cool, huh? :)

  28. What a great idea for both Rebekah and the baby.
We are trying to do something similar to make a cd of all our family members reading a book so our child(ren) will always hear their voices.

  29. I totally didn't think this would make me cry....but it DID! :)

  30. Ps. Hahaha...it makes me laugh when people comment on your "accent"! Somehow, I just don't hear it ;)

  33. This is so sweet and such a great idea! I was crying into my keyboard at the end. You were born to be his mommy :-)

  34. I think Rebekah chose the BEST woman to be baby boy's Mommy. Oh my gosh, I'm crying.

The one book that makes me bawl every time I read it is, "Love You Forever" by Robert N. Munsch.

I'm a little emotional tonight and this made me cry! I cannot wait to hear more about you, Rebekah and baby boy (do you have name ideas yet?)!

  37. Hi Sweetie,
that is the first book i read our son as well...and every night since he came home with us. Kellen turned two last week, and he loves that book. He is the little rabbit and the other one is his daddy...with everything that the rabbit does, he jumps up and do it as well...and right at the end...kisses to the rabbits in the story...

you are going to love being a mama! The most beautiful word...holding your little boy in your arms will take a way 8 years worth of feelings...and all you feel is gratitude, absolute awe for how great our God is, and love....overflowing love...and more love....

one of these days sweetie, it's coming closer...one of these days you are holding your little boy in your arms xx

  38. I loved this so much, Scott came in to hear it and caught me crying. I explained it to him and he even got all misty eyed. This baby boy is so blessed. Already. When I feel like giving up you give strength to those of us that need it. (HUGS)

p.s. umm I am from NC...you got an accent to me too :)

  39. I loved this too. You look so cozy in your sweats. Sorry you had the flu. It seems like there are alot of illnesses going around.
One of my friends recently had "the everything flu"- gastrointestinal and body w/ chills and fever. Hope you are now 100% recovered.
Like so many other blog readers, this made me cry. I just have such a tender heart. I love what you said about baby's 2 mommys.
I am an adoptee and I think that it is special to have 2 moms.
I really identify with babies like your little one who are the first baby a couple adopts because that's what I was so long ago. When I watch 1st time adoptive parents with their children I get a picture of how my adoptive parents must have felt about me and I feel blessed. Like a friend of mine once said "people don't adopt children unless they really want them."
I'm so glad that you decided to record your voice and your heart for Baby Boy, Rebekah, and all the rest of us. Thanks for sharing this with us!
