Can I tell you how much I love this kid?

He has presented more challenges than I was ever prepared to deal with, but he is the most giving, accepting, loving kid I've ever met.

Just recently, I started reading the boys a story from the Bible and laying hands on them before bed time, each night. We've been doing it for about a week. Because I want them to take our time seriously, I'm teaching them about reverence. They have a tendency to sneak peeks at each other, through squinted eyes, and giggle while praying.

I think I finally got through to them because, tonight, when I laid my hands on LJ's head, he was extremely earnest. Our time went something like this:

Father, I thank you for this mighty, mighty man of God.

LJ: "mighty man of God"

I thank you for bringing him to our family.

LJ: "family"

Father, I pray that you would help LJ focus during the day, so that he can be a very good boy and obey mommy and daddy.

LJ: "help me, Jesus"

We praise you for the blessings you give us and the gift that LJ is to our life. Make him strong, and wise, and passionate for you. Ignite his heart with love for people and may words never fall from his lips. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

LJ: "A-AAAAMen. Thank you, Mama."

God has redeemed this precious boy and my life is better because of him. I'm in awe of what God is doing before my eyes, in HIS son. I'm so thankful that we said, yes...

  1. Oh my goodness...that melted my heart.

Thanks for sharing that, especially tonight. Really.

I love how God works in and through you guys and your littles.

And I love watching how He uses your "yes" decisions and can't wait to see where the next "yes" leads...

Thanks for sharing with all of us that have come to know and care about each of you, some of us over years, even if only from afar.

P.S. Do you know the Jesus Storybook Bible? I think you'd really like it - especially if you can get your hands on the videos (you have to buy those with the curriculum so it's more unless you can find someone to borrow them from). Though the audio, which is easier (and less) to get is also great - the visuals just bring it to life even more. I think the boys are nearing an age where they'd start to love it and it's something I think they'd love for years. And I think you'd be surprised how it touches your own heart. There are days that reading a story from the JSB or, even better, sitting and watching the 4-6 minute version of it being read aloud with the images, touches my heart in ways that even my "real" Bible doesn't.

  2. Amazing! Thank you for allowing me a glimps into how amazing our God is.. I have no words. Just thank you.

  3. That is just precious and challenges me!!!

  4. Love it!!!! And love that picture of that handsome boy.

  5. He looks so happy, you can see it in his eyes. Good job Mom. They really are little miracles, aren't they :)

  6. Beautiful, beautiful post! Praise God!

  7. Sheesh, thanks for the tears! How precious <3

  8. You inspire me to be a better momma to my kids. Thank you for your honesty.

  9. That is very sweet and he loves to sing, too. He's doing so well.

  10. Truly a blessing from GOD!

  11. Man, you really banked when it came too little boys. LJ is right up there with Ty as far as cutness and whit!!! Love ya guys!!!!!!

  12. Rebekah, could you please post a link to the blog Their second child-5 yrs old-, a daughter Lucy, has been fighting a rare brain cancer that also went down her spine for a year now. She was just recognized as FINALLY being in remission but now, a week after coming back from a much needed vacation, she got really really sick. She is now FIGHTING for her life in ICU. Their sweet family is Christian and I knew you would be touched by their story. Everyone please pray!

  13. I am so thankful you said yes, too. :)

  14. My husband & I have been married for 15 years and have been unable to have children. We have been blessed to have 3 foster children (3,5 & 9) living in our home. They were placed in our home "for the weekend" 17 months ago. One of my favorite parts of the day is bed time...praying with them...watching their prays develop as well as ending every evening singing Jesus Love Me with them. It continues to amaze me how God chooses to deepen His relationship with me through them.

People often say nice things about how we have changed their lives...I always say you have no idea how THEY have changed OUR lives.
