Score One for Mom

It only took me a week, but I figured out the secret formula to dissipating sibling rivalry and frequent tantrums.

Structured play.

I was armed and ready for today. After our morning routine, we turned cartoons off and spent three hours cycling through activities every 30 minutes. We did crafts, puzzles, story time, took a walk, played basketball and then had "free" time, right before lunch.

Mama, of course, is exhausted with so much hands on play-time...BUT we escaped any episodes. Both boys were kind and loving to each other and genuinely enjoyed being with the other.

I snapped these shots during their free play. Alpha and Bravo banned together to hunt dinosaurs with nets.

In case you're wondering where the nets are...the dinosaurs ate them.

  4. I find the same with my 2 - I keep them pretty busy with walks, outside time, outings to the store, etc whenever they are awake. I will be adding in crafts and play doh now that they are a little older. Then there is always meal times, snack times and naps to break it all up. They get free play time, too, obviously but just not too much, lol. It is exhausting but I've never parented any other way because I have essentially always had 2, so I guess I'm used to it. Way to go!

  5. Yeah, Mama! I'll bet you were exhausted. I don't know how long I would be able to keep that up -- but then I guess we do what we have to, don't we?

  6. Something else you may want to consider (this is a Purvis thing too, btw) is giving a "dose" of protein every couple of hours to help regulate blood sugar. That, along with structured play and lots of sensory diet activities, made a world of difference with our 2-year-old. Keep up the good work, mama!
