Lovely Day, Lovely Life

Oh, my goodness, what great friends I have in all of you. Thank you for all the happy wishes! I had a beautiful day. I am one of those people that loves my birthday. I mean LOVES it. I like to celebrate for a week...I love the hoo-ha, the parade of gifts, the phone calls...I look forward to it for weeks.

This year was very different. Every day, since Ty, has been a dream come true...truly...that my big day really paled in comparision. He's like 100 birthdays every day. I woke up, yesterday, with so much gratitude in my heart for Rebekah. She gave me the best gift I could ever receive. At least once a day, Ben will look at me and say, "Can you believe someone gave us their baby?" It's surreal...even after 2 months. I'm not sure it will ever sink in (I hope it never does).

Rebekah has changed my life forever with this sweet, sweet baby boy.

His presence in our life forces us to be better. Better people, better parents. He has given our lives so much purpose...I can't even formulate the fullness. My little Ty-Guy was so sweet yesterday, it was as if he knew it was my birthday. He slept 7 hours, ate and went right back to bed - giving me the opportunity for a long hot shower and lots of "get ready" time, took good naps, snuggled, and never made a peep!

It was such a perfect, lazy day! Meeghan and the kids brought lunch and we had a picnic on the porch. Later we snuck out for dinner and a movie.

We went to see Julie & Julia, which I loved. It would be a hard movie to recommend because I related to both characters in so many ways...someone outside my life may not find it as endearing. I found it amazing. Both Jules try to find their place in the world and use cooking as a mechanism to finding their true selves. There's a very brief scene that ripped my heart to shreds...when Julia finds out her sister is pregnant. Her infertility is never mentioned on screen, but a barren heart knows. I wanted to jump from my seat and hold her...tell her there's hope. I most related to Julie. She's a writer at heart and so bad wants to be published....She writes a blog through the movie and all the details surrounding it made my heart smile...there are so many parallels in my own life. Ben laughed out loud when Julie's husband stormed away and said, "Do NOT put this in the blog." I can't tell you how many times I've heard those words...Such a great boost of inspiration for me, as I, too, dream of writing a book. It was a perfect end to a perfect day. I hold out much hope for my big two-eight year. If nothing else, I'm finally a mom...
...and nothing could be more lovely.

  9. I LOVED that movie, too...especially the part about her sister being pregnant. I thought later about why they even put that in the movie, since it had absolutely nothing to do with the storyline...but it was a sweet reminder that every day there are other people going through the same thing you are; it's so often unspoken. The blogging was awesome, too:), and I loved listening to Julia Child's conversations; she's hilarious! I went home and watched the real Julia on YouTube, and I think Meryl Streep hammed it up just a little, but I loved it:) I'm glad you had an awesome birthday...Ty is a chunky monkey of sweetness:)

  10. LOL! "Do NOT put this in the blog!!" I hear that SO OFTEN!!!!!! That cracks me up!!

I thought I was the only adult who loves my birthday. My family teases me that my birthday is "the entire month of March" since I take it so very seriously. :)

  12. Awwww, I'm glad your day was so awesome! You obviously have great friends, and your family is wonderful! I also saw that movie, and loved it as well. I must be a bawlbaby, as the scene you mentioned made me cry. It was a fantastic movie, and made me want to come home and kiss my hubs! I love the relationships in that movie. Very real. I'm tempted to check out the cookbook!

  15. After having just had the "don't put this on the blog" conversation with you...I am laughing out loud reading this!

I too have always enjoyed my birthday (maybe it's us leo people??) but this year I already felt as though I'd had 1,000 birthdays by the time my real one rolled around and it didn't stand a chance. :)

I'm so glad you had such a lovely day, and that all your dreams have come true!!!

  18. My favorite moment from the movie is when she has someone post on her blog - I can relate with her excitement that someone is actually reading her blog. The first time I got comments, I did a happy dance!

I find it so interesting to hear about "Julie & Julia" from barren women vs. women who have children easily. We pick up on the fine nuances - they don't. Plus, someone commented on my blog about the movie: we wonder, since the movie paralleled the lives so closely, is Julie infertile as well?

I'm glad you had a fabulous birthday!!

  20. Happy Birthday! Sounds like it was an amazing day.
16 months later I still can't believe someone entrusted us with their child. Just today as I walked down the stairs with her after nap I wondered at the fact that I am the one this blessing calls Mommy.

  22. Ive been reading your blog for only about 4 months...One thing that bothers me is the title of your blog, i think its a little outdated, i would love the title to be changed. Some suggestions, Heart Sings, Heart rejoices, Heart does black flips,,lol
