Two Rebekahs, One Interview

Words and pictures from our visit to come. For now, enjoy our candid video as we answer your questions. It's a bit lengthy, I had to cut the segments in three (40 min total), but I think you'll enjoy them as we explore our experience in open adoption.

I hope this gave you a good peak into our friendship; I cherish it more than I can say!

  2. Hey Rebekah!

I love reading your blog! I actually just got done watching the interview, and I had a question...this is going to sound rather silly, but why is adoption so expensive? And who gets the money once the child has been adopted? Did Rebekah get paid for the adoption or did you just have to pay the agency? Also, I noticed that you have been in contact with DHS (from one of your posts). How is that going?

  3. What a great interview. Thanks for answering my question. And thanks for your honesty, always.

Is it too late to ask a silly question? Where did you get your curtains?!?! They are beautiful!

  6. Thank you for the video and answers to questions. As an adoptive mother, that is in a open adoption it is refreshing to hear and see another adoption that looks similar to ours. It's hard for people to relate and understand the dynamics of the relationship that have never been through it. I find that hard at times so thank you!! Thanks for sharing your life with us. Love your blog!!!

  10. Two things that resounded with me: I felt like a thief stealing a baby after watching our youngest's b-mom sign the papers at the hospital and seeing her get in her car empty armed. The second thing is that we feel the same way about the sibling issue, our oldest (age 8) has 2 younger siblings and we feel it is our responsibilty to make sure they see each other now, but it will be up to them to stay in touch with each other when they are grown!

  11. I loved watching your video chat Rebekah(s)! :) (MI)Rebekah, you are authentic to the core and I respect you so much! It's a wonderful thing to see the blessing of this relationship in your life, I'm so happy for you! I remember one time at church, while you were just beginning your infertility struggle, I just had an urge to tell you that there were crowns for the faithful (you and Ben), and that God has heard your cry. As I watched you and Rebekah it dawned on me that SHE is also a crown! Your relationship is blessed because you chose to honor God in how you treated her from the very beginning. What a beautiful, rich friendship. Love you girl.

  12. Thanks for that interesting talk you guys had. It is very interesting to see you guys "in person" :-)

My son will be home 2 years in July and it is interesting - as you guys pointed out - how the relationship has evolved. In fact, just last night we were chatting on fb and we too were able to talk about some of the "unmentionables" that are too difficult to talk about when you are going through it. Thanks for your openness!

  13. I love it. I remember beginning to read your blog when we decided to adopt and hoping and praying that I, too, would have a close relationship with our child's birthparents. We can now call both of Jackson's birthparents our friends. I would say we still are awkward at times because we have not yet had the time or opportunity to talk and build our relationship as much as we'd like. But that will be changing soon and I SO look forward to deepening our relationships with them. Thank you BOTH for sharing your stories, and Ty's story - like someone else said, people have SO many questions and just can't seem to wrap their heads around open adoption. People sharing their stories is what will make it easier for all of us. Take care, beautiful mommas!

  16. Hi Rebekah,

I must say I am in awe of the relationship between both you and Rebekah and your families. Your Blog was the first one I came across when I was searching for information to start our Adoption process and I love it. I will be following your Foster/Adopt adventures.

My Question: Are you guys planning to write a book together?

    Alex.
