Summer Love

We have had such a great summer, enjoying all that Michigan has to offer. Last year, we pretty much didn't leave the house, so it's been a lot of fun watching Ty experience his first real warm weather activities.

This has been one of those weeks where Ty literally changed from night to night. He's growing so fast and his transformation from baby to boy is in full swing. Just this week, he told me "no", started walking, shaking his head yes/no, blowing kisses, and communicating with words other than Muma, Dada, and Moo.

We went to Applebees for dinner, tonight, and when we walked in the door the hostess asked,"Just the three of you?" It made my heart skip a beat. We're a three of you. Do you know how long it was just the two of us? Ben didn't really find the wonder in it and was more anxious to order an appetizer, but I've thought about it all night. Of course, we've been a family all year long, but usually when we go to dinner the hostess will say, "Two and a baby?" Tonight, there was no baby. We were a family of three.

There is something so special about having a family outside of just Ben and me. Ty has become a real ham and was making us laugh all through dinner. I never noticed anyone else in the restaurant. It was just us.  Me - Ben - Ty.

As much as I look forward to expanding our family, my life is so full, right now, it overflows. Mothering Tyrus has given me a completing joy that refreshes my heart each day. I'm so thankful for God's little reminders of where he's brought us, especially when they come from unexpected places.

  1. I know what you mean! I can't go back to that place where it was just Amy and me...I don't remember what that feels like. I live for these kids and love including them in everything we do to give them every experience imaginable in this life.

Oh, and I'm an appetizer guy, too. [grin]

  2. We haven't got no yet, but "stop" is thrown around quite a bit and he points to everythnig and says "thi" (this). he wants us to tell him the name of everything in sight. I love it. We've seen the shaking head and blowing kisses too. Great pics. Summer is the best.

  3. I LOVE this, "Just the three of you?" I can totally relate to why that was music to your ears. You're right that there's something so special about being a family that consists of more than a couple. I always considered M. and I a family before C. came along but now it's different and in many ways, so much better. :)

  4. aww hoe cute. He is growing so fast and is adorable. he puts a smile on your face when you see him because he has so much joy in his face. He is truly happy with you guys. It is nice to hear that you are a family of three. That was exciting for us when we would go into a restuarant and we knew it wasn't just the two of us anymore like it had been for years. Wait till you go to his first movie theater you just watch them in aww of there reactions that is really cute as well.

  5. This post gave me shivers! I LOVE IT! I totally get what you mean about "just the three of you." Your words are so eloquent because all I can seem to muster up is, "it's just so.... cool!" Hehe!
Anyway, sometimes I feel like I am the only one that still marvels the fact that I get to watch this kid grow up and she loves me. There is nothing quite like it!

  6. Love the pictures. :) Just wanted to say I also loved your post about how hard the cost of adoption is, and you feeling drawn to foster care eventually. It was such a beautiful and heartfelt post. Thanks for sharing. :)

  7. I can only imagine the joy in your heart when they said "the three of you." I hope to one day hear it, too. I think it's amazing that there are women (and mommies) like us who can TRULY appreciate those gifts, those moments that make it all worth it. I have been eating up every baby gift, every question asked about our hopeful new baby, every congratulations. I've waited years for those things. Anything could go wrong, but that's true for anyone...what a gift it is to REALLY see these moments for the blessings they are.

  8. You've got me a bit teary eyed just thinking about it. I love it being the 3 of us too. I still have moments of wonder and just like Ben my husband does not see the wonder in it.

  11. How sweet Rebekah! It made me sit here and imagine Corey and I as a "3" someday and what that would be like! Thanks for the foreshadowing! ;)

  12. Having a third "little person" is crazy. The changes that take place during the 12-18 months window are truly CRAZY. They change so much and it really is an about face as a mother to go from having an infant and having this independent spirited CHILD. It is so precious and I know you are loving every moment!
