Colorado

We had a wonderful visit with Rebekah, this past weekend.

As soon as we arrived at the mountains, Ben said, "Don't you feel like this is our town?" There is a drawing sense of home when we enter the Springs. The streets are familiar; memory and family tangle together, welcoming us back.

Ty was a little overwhelmed with the amount of love and people, when we first arrived, but he, quickly, fell into the fold and enjoyed being re-introduced to his first family.

Hands-down, the best part of the trip was watching Ty interact with Rebekah. He had the chance to ask his most burning question - "What did you eat when I was in your belly?"

Watching Ty interact and play with his siblings was warming to the heart. It turns out that his oldest brother shares the same tender spirit.

I continue to marvel at Rebekah's zest for life and joyful outlook. Ty will only grow to appreciate her more as he gets to know her.

 What a treasure.

(LJ did GREAT. He stayed home with our best friends and only asked about us on our last night apart. He barreled into Ty as soon as we got home and said, "Tyrus! Tyrus! My brother is home!" It was a great weekend with sweet reunions on both ends).

    1. It was a prayerful and thoughtful decision, on our part, to leave LJ with our friends. We were confident in our decision and look forward to bringing him on the next trip.

LJ is absolutely a part of our family, but it's more complicated than that. He is not as secure as Ty is and doesn't do well in new situations, with new people.

He did great at home and had fun playing with his friends, while we were away.

    2. Heather,

Is that really what you got from this post? Have you ever read the other posts about LJ? Basically their whole life's have revolved around what LJ needs ever since he came to live with them. That is how it is when you adopt an older child. You can't help it even if you want to. They decided to make a plan for him that fit his needs for right now. As a parent of kids just like LJ, trust me, that was doing him a favor and keeping him secure in his situation. Not treating him like he wasn't part of their family.

    3. Love this, Rebekah! You did what you knew, as his mama, to be best for his sweet spirit. I bet it was so much fun for him to have overnights with your friends!

  7. Looks like a great reunion!!! Happy smiles all around :-) I am sure LJ was equally spoiled at your friends house and agree with your decision to take Ty without his brother and have him be the focus of this reunion'. Good for you for following your heart.

  12. So glad the trip was so great and your time together so precious!

Just a heads up that I sent "SIF" (Leah - of Single Infertile Female) who just got a few days notice that she's getting an infant girl through a native adoption (she lives/works with the native population in Alaska) in the next day or so your way...it'll be an open adoption and I think the grace with which you guys have handled things with Ty's adoption and the beautiful relationship you and Rebekah have is something that would be an encouragement to her.

So you may get an email from her - hope you don't mind!

Here's her blog link if it's not one you're aware of and where she shares the latest update on what's happened (there's only one real prior entry about it...she had been in the foster to adopt process and then all this happened unexpectedly)

I think God might really use your experiences/wisdom/grace with which you've handled things as an encouragement and blessing for someone who's about to start down a similar road.

Actually, on that note, I've shared your blog with one of my co-workers from church, too, as they're in the foster-adopt process here and it's been an encouragement to them, as well.

Know that God uses you guys in all sorts of ways - so thanks for your faithfulness in sharing your story!
